I had an awesome weekend this past weekend. I was out and about for both days, starting with seeing "Tropic Thunder" on Friday (just for Robert Downey Jr). It wasn't bad... I'd recommend waiting for the DVD if you want to see it. Or better still, taking it out of the library (for free).

Saturday I wandered around the Thornhill Festival, bought food (mmm... roasted yams), bugged some of my co-workers who were there representing the library... then hopped on the subway and went downtown to meet up with Dee and Pete, who were in town to see Blue Man Group.

Sunday I went to Wonderland to celebrate Corinna's birthday. We met up with Ian and Emily and Emily's sister Allison for a bit, then after all the fun roller coasters we went out for sushi.

It was lots of fun. I also got a bit of knitting done on my re-started scarf. Of course, every time I sit down to knit Hamlet tries to eat my yarn. I had to build a pillow barracade, which he took as a challenge and ended up attacking from a different direction. *sigh*

Oh, and last night I saw the TV show "The Mentalist". Originally, I thought this concept was pretty stupid, just like CSI and Law & Order, but I watched it and it's pretty good. (It helps that Simon Baker is pretty hot) ;)

Dark Knight

So I finally got to go see the new Batman movie


Heath Ledger as the Joker was just *creepy*, but they did an amazing job. I found the film to be quite long (those movie theatre seats can be pretty uncomfortable after a while) but the movie did a good job of holding my attention.

Here are a few points I had about the movie:

- The hoarse voice that Christian Bale used as Batman made me wonder if the Dark Knight was getting over a really bad cold or something. I was half expecting him to start hacking up a lung mid-speech.

- Maggie Gyllenhal (I probably really messed up on that spelling) was MUCH better than Katie Holmes ... which I'm sure everyone agrees.

- I love Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman!!

There were a few other things that bothered me, but they would be spoilers, so in case someone hasn't seen it, I won't write anything down. You'll know it when you watch it.

And...

This weekend I went to Wonderland again! I love roller coasters. So much fun! I sat at the very very front of Behemoth again (this time, my heart didn't stop for quite as long). Good times. I'd go again in August, but all my free time is pretty much spoken for, so if anyone wants to go in September, let me know ;)

Ski vacation - the picture edition

So, as promised, here are a few pictures from the ski weekend.

The first little while, the cottage had no heat. Man, was it cold! I was wearing loads of layers and we buried ourselves under blankets. Fortunately there were electric heaters for the bedrooms so we didn't freeze while we slept, but that doesn't mean it wasn't chilly!

Highlights of the weekend include:

Skiing at Sir Sam's

Cooking dinner after skiing (I'm making pesto for the couscous)

And playing of musical intruments

And, because I started working on my So-Called scarf, using yarn that I think looks like cooked veggies (or vegetable pasta according to Dee), here's what I have so far.

I squee every time I start knitting this. I love it so.

Ski weekend :)

I had a great time last weekend with Heather, Mike, Em, and Ian at the cottage (even though we didn't have heat for most of it and it was *cold*)

Pictures will come when I find my camera under the piles and piles of piles I have all over my apartment.

In knitting news, I only have to do thumbs for my gauntlets, and I started knitting my so-called scarf in wonderful yarn that reminds me of veggies for some reason. Again, I'll post pictures when my camera resurfaces.

Yesterday was Toronto's Word on the Street festival! Onto the photos!

We heard Melanie Watt read "Scaredy Squirrel Makes A Friend" and "Chester"

... and I got her to sign two books for me :D

There was a memorial service honouring fallen firefighters, just outside the festival, so we saw a parade of firemen in dress uniform


They also had a giant flag hanging from two fire trucks.


After the exhausting book festival, we sat in front of the new addition to the ROM (which I dislike) and I took a picture of the diagonal scarf I'm knitting in front of the diagonal ROM

Thornhill Village Festival

I spent Saturday working at the Thornhill Village Festival, manning a library information table with a co-worker. It was by far the coldest day of the summer (we're still technically in summer, right?), but there were advantages.

For one thing, I got to play with a bunny puppet all day (and yes, I will give it back).



Another advantage was the front row seats for the parade.

Followed by an incredibly cute troop of Beavers!


There was a guy in a motorized bathtub (with a motorized outhouse following behind him)


And two gorgeous Clydesdale horses, pulling a large wagon. I miss horseback riding sometimes.

Not sure what the heck this is, but it sure made a lot of noise!

There was a clown, towing some penguins around (we saw this guy a few times during the day)

And the recreationists for the mock-battle

These guys were the other side... I don't know who won.

It was a cute festival. I'd go next year as a visitor, except I think I'll be manning the booth as long as I'm working at my particular branch... but I don't mind. It was fun!

So much to say, so little energy

This post was going to be about yesterday's Stitch 'N Pitch, complete with pictures and commentary. The Jays won! Yay!

Instead of blogging, however, I went to Ikea and bought furniture. Furniture, yay!

As a result, I am too tired to blog extensively about baseball. The next post will be about it, but that may not be until after the weekend. Weekend off, yay!!
