Trying to think of a post

Let's see... something must have happened during the past week for me to blog about...

I visited London on Friday/Saturday, just to make sure that Dee and Sam were still talking to me ;) It was lots of fun - I miss that city! It made me long for my university days when almost all my friends were in one place. Ah, nostalgia.

Hamlet helps me pack in the most unhelpful way possible

While in London, Dee and I looked at lots of pretty dresses (which, unfortunately, I can't show you) and did some knitting (which, fortunately, I can show you!)

I'm pleased to say that with Dee's help, I finished my gauntlets! Right in time for summer.... d'oh! We got Sam, did some shopping, ate some yummy ice cream... it was lots of fun! (Don't worry Sam, I won't post the picture of you eating ice cream) ;)

We were each knitting from one end of the ball, like Lady and the Tramp - only with yarn

And I started making a lacy scarf, using a pattern Dee found for me.

It's the Montego Bay Scarf, and I'm using the sock yarn Heather and I won during the sock scavenger hunt (since I dislike knitting socks). I'm debating whether or not to scrap the Toronto sock (the one that's in all the scavenger hunt pictures) and either start over or give up. I haven't decided yet.

Forced to be friends

I went into my bedroom yesterday to find Hermes sleeping on the bed. Hamlet followed me in, jumped up on the bed, and started licking Hermes' ear! I knew they'd be friends eventually!

Of course, thirty seconds later, this started happening:

Which turned into a full blown kitty battle on my bed. *sigh*

To tired to get photos off the camera

Ugh. Monday.

Well, it should be a somewhat relaxing week, since I don't think I have any major plans... except a phone conference thingie on Wednesday.

The angel on the top of my tree survived the night. No smashed angel bits to clean up this morning, I'm happy to say.

Hamlet fell off my drying rack last night and was walking with a bit of a limp, so I thought I was going to have to rush him to the 24-hour vet at 11pm. But he seems fine now. He's already tried to jump into my cereal and scale the drying rack *again* (he doesn't learn), so I think he just got a bit of a bruise. Strange kitten.

Yup. I wish I knew why I was so tired. Maybe I need to start exercising. That's supposed to make you more energetic, right?

Back!

I'm back from my mini-vacation :)

It was a lot of fun, except the furnace wasn't working so it was about 10C in the cottage for Thursday and part of Friday. I spent that time watching DVDs next to an electric heater, under two blankets. Hamlet also joined me under the blankets. The poor thing was shivering!

Hamlet is recovering nicely from his surgery. He's got a big bald spot on his side where the pain-patch was. I wonder what possessed the vet to put the patch on his side. When Hermes had his surgery, they put it on his tummy.

Well, I'm hungry and in need of groceries for the week, so that's my blog for today. I only missed two days for the NaBloPoMo ... not bad. I back posted for yesterday, since I do that post every Remembrance Day if I can

The End of Kittenhood

Today marks Hamlet's rite of passage from kitten to castrato.
(you know your life is dull when *this* is the most interesting thing you have to blog about)


Seems like only yesterday he was a cute little ball of fur that could fit in one hand


But he got bigger (and sharper - claws and teeth, not smarts). Poor Hermes was so resentful at having someone around to compete for my attention. He hated the kitten for a while, but eventually grew to tolerate him. I think once Hamlet calms down a bit more, he and Hermes might even be friends!


Yes, my little kitten grew up very fast and now the big day has finally come. Poor little thing doesn't know what's happening either. Gotta love the element of surprise. Like telling your kids you're going to Disneyworld and ending up at the dentist :)


Good luck, Hamlet! And just think, when this is all over, we've got five days of R&R at the cottage for you to recover.

Cats Sleeping Funny (and my new haircut)

Hamlet has this funny habit of burrowing through my hair. Dee took pictures of it, so I could see what's going on (why do I always pick the weird cats?)

Look! Hermes and Hamlet are playing! (I don't think Hermes realized Hamlet was there until Hamlet fell off the chair and landed on his head. That was pretty funny!)

Very Photo Heavy Post!

I just downloaded all my pictures from my camera to my computer, so I thought I'd share. I'm also playing with Picassa, so if this post looks weird, that's why. Okay, onto the photos! I believe they're mostly of the long weekend at my parents' cottage:

My sister showed me how to do some neat tricks with my camera, so we played around a bit with them. For example, I can set the camera to only pick up a specific colour, in this case, blue:

Then I tried it again (without my sister's help) to only pick up red. It didn't work so well. Later, she told me I can adjust the sensitivity, but that wasn't in time for this picture of Dee and Pete (who were holding something red. The rest of the picture was supposed to be black and white)

Dee and Pete decided they wanted to try kayaking. This is an awesome picture of Dee, with the ski hill in the background:

kitten and movie

I saw "Transformers" last night. It was much better than I thought it would be! I was a little concerned it would only be giant robots blowing stuff up (which a lot of it was) but there was a semblance of plot. The main human guy (I think his name was Sam in the movie) was *annoying* but his car, Bumblebee was awesome.

Bumblebee was so cute! Like a robotic-car puppy! :)

Anyway, I promised another kitten video, so here it is. This is Hamlet, trying to disembowel a stuffed lion. Please ignore my inane commentary in the video. Or better yet, turn the sound off. I really have to learn not to make a sound while recording.

Weekend Goals

This long weekend, my goals are:

a) finish the never-ending baby blanket

b) read at least 3 books ("Empress" by Shan Sa, "Gifts" by Ursula K. Le Guin, and "Endymion Spring" by Matthew Skelton)

c) try to accomplish a) and b) while not losing my new kitten

d) keep Moe from eating Hamlet (the new kitten)

e) get a tan (although I don't have a bathing suit anymore. Scuba diving is hard on a suit)


And now, because I have downloaded Picasa, I'm going to play with the photo feature.
