Well Travelled Cat

I am moving, yet again.
I hate packing.

So far, my front hall closet and the majority of my bookcases are packed up in boxes. I wish this was all of my stuff, but alas, I have plenty more. I've already kicked a box full of books so many times that I thought my toe was broken. It wasn't.

As I blog (instead of pack - I'm developing an aversion of cardboard), I'm thinking of all the places I've lived. Or, more specifically, all the places my poor cat Hermes has lived.

He was born in Hamilton.
Moved to live with me in London (in two apartments).
There was a summer or two in Brampton, I'm sure.
Moved with me to Gatineau for a few months.
Back to London.
Back to Ottawa.
Back to Brampton.
Two apartments in Toronto.
And now, Brantford.

This isn't counting the numerous trips to our family cottage for weekends and summer vacations. Or the trips to stay with Aunt Heather and Uncle Mike while I've been away.

It's nice that he's very stoic about the whole situation. True, it's a royal pain in the ass to get him into his carrier, but once he's in there, he's pretty much resigned to his fate. He'll not make a sound as I haul his fat self down to my car, shove him in the back seat, and proceed to drive with him for several hours. Once, on the way to Ottawa, I forgot he was even there until he meowed to remind me!

If only Hamlet were the same ...

Forced to be friends

I went into my bedroom yesterday to find Hermes sleeping on the bed. Hamlet followed me in, jumped up on the bed, and started licking Hermes' ear! I knew they'd be friends eventually!

Of course, thirty seconds later, this started happening:

Which turned into a full blown kitty battle on my bed. *sigh*

Vacation!!

Today is day one of my mini-vacation. As soon as I get Hamlet back from the vet (yes, he's still there), I'll load up the cats into the car and head to the cottage for 4 days of relaxation :D

Since I dropped Hamlet off at the vet on Monday (he had a reaction to the pain medication that made his face swell, so the vet opted to do his surgery on Wednesday, meaning I can pick him up today), I think Hermes was a little worried that he would be the next to go ... or he thinks I finally regained my sanity and got rid of the little devil.

Anyway, Hermes has been super cuddly and friendly, rarely more than a foot away from me at any given time (which means I keep tripping over him). It's just like old times. I hope he doesn't take it too hard when the kitten comes back!

Since I'll be without internet until Monday, I'll have to neglect my daily blog posts. I figure the NaBloPoMo gods will understand if I'm unable to post due to lack of internet (yes, there are still some places without the internet in this world)

So, I'll be back Monday or Tuesday! Enjoy your weekends everyone, and I'll tell you about my adventures at the cottage (if there are any)

The End of Kittenhood

Today marks Hamlet's rite of passage from kitten to castrato.
(you know your life is dull when *this* is the most interesting thing you have to blog about)

Seems like only yesterday he was a cute little ball of fur that could fit in one hand

But he got bigger (and sharper - claws and teeth, not smarts). Poor Hermes was so resentful at having someone around to compete for my attention. He hated the kitten for a while, but eventually grew to tolerate him. I think once Hamlet calms down a bit more, he and Hermes might even be friends!

Yes, my little kitten grew up very fast and now the big day has finally come. Poor little thing doesn't know what's happening either. Gotta love the element of surprise. Like telling your kids you're going to Disneyworld and ending up at the dentist :)

Good luck, Hamlet! And just think, when this is all over, we've got five days of R&R at the cottage for you to recover.

Cats Sleeping Funny (and my new haircut)

This is it for pictures, folks. Sorry about the overload. I only did a few pictures, too. There wer 105 on my camera!

Hamlet in his basket, sleeping in a strange position:

My new hair cut (this is an awful picture. It's hard to take a picture of yourself. It looks better in person!)

I can home from Ikea today (NEVER go to Ikea on a Saturday. I broke a cardinal rule!) and found Hermes sleeping like this:

Why was he in such a strange position? To avoid the kitten, I think:

kitten and movie

I saw "Transformers" last night. It was much better than I thought it would be! I was a little concerned it would only be giant robots blowing stuff up (which a lot of it was) but there was a semblance of plot. The main human guy (I think his name was Sam in the movie) was *annoying* but his car, Bumblebee was awesome.

Bumblebee was so cute! Like a robotic-car puppy! :)

Anyway, I promised another kitten video, so here it is. This is Hamlet, trying to disembowel a stuffed lion. Please ignore my inane commentary in the video. Or better yet, turn the sound off. I really have to learn not to make a sound while recording.

Kitten!

I was going to post three kitten movies here, but YouTube takes *forever* to upload and I'm in a bit of a hurry... so, one for now, and the others later!

Hope that worked!

Weekend Goals

This long weekend, my goals are:

a) finish the never-ending baby blanket

b) read at least 3 books ("Empress" by Shan Sa, "Gifts" by Ursula K. Le Guin, and "Endymion Spring" by Matthew Skelton)

c) try to accomplish a) and b) while not losing my new kitten

d) keep Moe from eating Hamlet (the new kitten)

e) get a tan (although I don't have a bathing suit anymore. Scuba diving is hard on a suit)

And now, because I have downloaded Picasa, I'm going to play with the photo feature.

Pride Parade! Greeks!
