Books I missed reading when I was in school

I almost wish I had read it in high school. It certainly was better than the stuff I remember reading. Not exactly uplifting, though.

Weekend Goals

This long weekend, my goals are:

a) finish the never-ending baby blanket

b) read at least 3 books ("Empress" by Shan Sa, "Gifts" by Ursula K. Le Guin, and "Endymion Spring" by Matthew Skelton)

c) try to accomplish a) and b) while not losing my new kitten

d) keep Moe from eating Hamlet (the new kitten)

e) get a tan (although I don't have a bathing suit anymore. Scuba diving is hard on a suit)


And now, because I have downloaded Picasa, I'm going to play with the photo feature.

I got a new camera!

I didn't want to spend money on a case (since I spent enough on the camera, a memory stick, and a warranty*)

So I thought I'd knit a case. Because I don't have enough projects on the go already**

I did a Google search for knitted camera cases, to see what others have done. Here are the ones I found that I liked:

Number 1 - I like the drawstring feature!

Number 2 - this one is just cute. Is felting better for a bag?

... okay, I thought there'd be more than just two. Anyway, I'd also like a shoulder strap for my camera, long enough for me to put across one shoulder and across my body.

And because a wise person told me people only read blogs with pictures, here's one of the test photos from the new camera, using the low-light setting:

*For those of you who know how rough I can be on a camera, I thought a warranty was a good idea. I should have got one for my computer too, but when I bought the computer, I couldn't also afford a warranty.

**Baby blanket, gauntlets, sweater, socks, and slippers... not to mention yarn for other projects, like hats and scarves. Why can't I ever finish what I start?

How did I not hear about this???

I just saw a trailer for a new anime called "Paprika", which apparently started on June 15th!

As far as I can tell, it's only playing in one cinema in Toronto: the Scotiabank Theatre on Richmond St W.

Tokyo Babylon

Meet 16-year-old Subaru Sumeragi, the 13th head of his clan, and an onmyoji (a spiritual master). He's living in Tokyo with his twin sister Hokuto, and fulfilling his family's destiny to protect Japan from hostile spirits. Hokuto is always trying to set him up with Seishiro, a veterinarian and possibly a member of the Sakurazukamori, a clan of mystical assassins.



Those are the characters of the manga Tokyo Babylon, published in 1991 by CLAMP (one of their first manga). I'm pleasantly surprised with how much I'm enjoying reading these manga. The subplots are very monster-of-the-day, but the overall plot dealing with the relationship between Subaru and Seishiro is fascinating.



Of course, if you've seen X/1999, you probably can figure out how the relationship ends, but I'm not going to spoil it.

I'm trying hard not to race through the five volumes I have, and I'm a little sad there are only 7 volumes total, but I can hardly wait to see how it ends. If you like the occult/spiritual side of manga and are looking for a more mature series than, say, xxxHolic, definitely read this!
