Goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo

I went to the zoo on Sunday, for a few hours. I was very thrilled to be able to test out my new non-Sony digital camera (*cough*Sonysucks*cough*)

Here are some pictures of the day:

Me facing down a dangerous dinosaur

(That exhibit is way cool. Go see it! You have until October!)

The tree kangaroos

My camera says the zoom is 3x, but it got up to 12x and the quality is still good, n'est pas? New camera rocks!!

A baby spider monkey

Also got a video of one of this guy's relatives taking a leak. That was not an intentional subject, by the way.

The gosling that just wanted some love... and ice cream

(He's under our picnic table)

Corinna gets goosed

(The gosling LOVED her)

Yup, so that was the zoo. I adore going there. If anyone wants to go, I'll gladly go again! I could watch the bats for hours (but no one will let me)

Deathly Hallows

Started: Monday July 23rd at 11:30am
Finished: Tuesday July 24th at 11:00pm

I'm not sure how to hide text in blogger, so no spoilers from me. Just let me say that the end was... acceptable.

I will be free to discuss the book tomorrow at work, if anyone cares to ;)

The very last bit? The last few pages? Stupid and unnecessary.

Okay, that's it. My next book is "The Golden Compass" and then I'll probably reread this one, just to give me more time to appreciate it.

Happy (early) Harry Potter Day!

Since I'll be at my cousin's wedding all day tomorrow (when the book is actually going to be released), I'm celebrating Harry Potter Day today!

Celebrations include me doing a Harry Potter program for kids at work, and dressing like this:

Happy Harry Potter Day!!!

OotP!

I was going to write what I thought of the new Harry Potter movie, but after reading MadJenny's review, all I can say is that I agree with her and that you should read that one :)

Things I would add, though...

  • 12 Grimmaud place (excuse the spelling. I'm too lazy to look up how it's supposed to be spelled) was really well done. That place was creepy, and I would hate to have to spend a night there!

  • Most of the Hogwarts students were using Muggle backpacks, which irked me quite a bit. If, like the Weasleys, most of these kids came from full wizarding families, I don't think they'd have those.

  • Fred and George were fantastic. I loved their experiments on students, and although they didn't make a swamp when leaving, they did go out with a bang :)

  • I loved Luna, but she didn't seem, well, English to me. I couldn't catch any accent. I don't know if this is because she's an American actress, or if she was speaking in an unnaturally high pitched voice which made it difficult for her accent to come through, but when she spoke, it seemed out of place from the rest of the characters.

Yes, I nitpick. I know.

  • Dumbledore's great escape was awesome.
  • Finally, I adored the end. I won't spoil it, but Voldemort vs. Dumbledore and Harry was a great way to end the movie
That's all I can think of right now. Go see it. And, MadJenny, if you want to see it again in IMAX, I'll come with you! :)

kitten and movie

I saw "Transformers" last night. It was much better than I thought it would be! I was a little concerned it would only be giant robots blowing stuff up (which a lot of it was) but there was a semblance of plot. The main human guy (I think his name was Sam in the movie) was *annoying* but his car, Bumblebee was awesome.

Bumblebee was so cute! Like a robotic-car puppy! :)

Anyway, I promised another kitten video, so here it is. This is Hamlet, trying to disembowel a stuffed lion. Please ignore my inane commentary in the video. Or better yet, turn the sound off. I really have to learn not to make a sound while recording.

Kitten!

I was going to post three kitten movies here, but YouTube takes *forever* to upload and I'm in a bit of a hurry... so, one for now, and the others later!

Hope that worked!

IT'S FINISHED!!!

Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
[/choir of angels]

It's done! It's done! I finished the never-ending baby blanket (which apparently had an end after all)

Hooray! Yippee!

Now I'm wondering if I should do any quick and easy finishing touches. Any suggestions?

I finished it at the cottage, so I seized the opportunity to do some "in the wild" shots :)

(Yes, it will be washed before given to the baby)

I was so pleased with myself for doing the blanket, I started happily knitting away at my gauntlets. I adore this yarn! I forget what it's called, but my Friends Knitting Together could help you out with that!

I knit quite a bit more in the car on the way home, but here's what I had before leaving the cottage on Monday

Hmmm... doesn't quite fit. (The black cat in the photo is my mom's cat, Moe)

Hope everyone had a good long weekend!
